Our Philosophy
Using great children’s literature as a launching pad for creative exploration is what Wild Beans Play is all about! We take the time to curate books and complementary activities so that you can spend the time reading and playing with your little beans.
Creativity has been identified as one of the imperative competencies for children to succeed in our increasingly complex, fast paced and innovation-driven world. The foundations of creativity begin at home when children are given the time and opportunity to imagine, invent, create and make a mess!
Building literacy and language skills is proven to be critical for success in school and future endeavours. Reading to your child during their early years lays the foundation for learning to read, which in turn builds a love for life-long learning.
Our Books
We read a lot of kids books!
Finding high quality children's books can be hard because there are just so many out there! Our books are curated by an educator to ensure that you are getting some of the best children's literature available. When choosing books we look for great stories, inspirational illustrations, meaningful messages and learning opportunities.
When possible, we source overstock books. Overstock books usually get returned to publishers and then head for the recycling bin. Although they get recycled, its a waste of all the energy and resources that went into printing the book in the first place. Since they are overstock, they are often tagged with a small black mark, so you may see that on the books you receive from us.
Sustainability
We love the earth. A lot. So as we design our products to build creative capacity of the next generation, we also want to do our part to ensure they have a sustainable and equitable world to contribute their gifts to.
Here are some of the ways we incorporate sustainability into what we do:
- We use recycled content and FSC paper.
- We include unique items that have been purchased from non-profit thrift stores who support the social fabric of our society (all items are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected).
- We are truly trying to avoid plastic whenever possible.
- When possible, we source overstock books. Overstock books usually get returned to publishers and then head for the recycling bin. Although they get recycled, its a waste of all the energy and resources that went into printing the book in the first place. Since they are overstock, they are often tagged with a small black mark, so you may see that on the books you receive from us.
- Whenever possible, we look for suppliers and vendors who align with our sustainability values.
- We let you know about our efforts for each kit! You will see the sustainability decisions we made on the insert each time you buy from us.
